Course Description:

Our Recreational 4WD Course is ideal for people who are after a quick course to learn the essentials of how to drive a 4WD. You will learn about the features of your 4WD, such as high and low range gears and when to use them. You will also learn the limitations of your vehicle: what it can and can’t do. You will learn to identify hazards and how to minimise risks to the safety of your passengers and your 4WD, as well as how to minimise damage to the environment. You will learn the appropriate driving techniques to use in different types of terrain.

While not a focus, the Recreational 4WD Course will briefly cover recovery techniques.

One-on-one Training

Trainings are delivered in your 4WD vehicle with the instructor sitting in your car. There can be up to 3 students in the car – there is a fixed price per vehicle.

Group Discount
If you organise for 3 vehicles to take the course as a group, with one instructor, then each vehicle will pay a discounted price.

Course Duration:

This 4WD course is delivered over 4 hours.

Course Locations:

Swan Gully, Bromelton
(Near Beaudesert).

Course Pre-requisites:

Participants must be 17 years or above and must have P-plate licence or above.
All training sessions are designed for people 17 years and over.
Fitness level is not important and experience is not required

Participants to Bring

  • Your own 4WD vehicle, fully fuelled and in roadworthy condition
  • Solid enclosed footwear (must be worn at all times)
  • Any recovery gear you may have
  • Food and drink (incl. plenty of water)

Course Cost:

$595 incl. GST per vehicle (up to 2 students) plus entrance fee to the 4WD park (price varies depending upon location)

Course Structure

This 4WD course consists of an information session followed by practical lessons in or around your 4WD vehicle. The following subjects will be covered:

General Operator Safety

These lessons will be verbal (Q&A) sessions with your instructor before driving:

  • Operator responsibilities
  • Hazard identification, risk management
  • Communication methods
  • Defensive 4WD driving techniques

Static Practical

These lessons will be covered outside, around your vehicle:

  • Vehicle capability identification
  • Vehicle preparation
  • Trip Planning

Off-Road Driver Training

For these practical lessons you will be driving your 4WD vehicle:

  • Hazard identification, risk management
  • Off-road driving techniques
  • Obstacle identification
  • Techniques to identify and negotiate obstacles
  • Vehicle placement in rough terrain
  • Basic recovery
