This 4WD driving course is delivered over one 8-hour day (depending on ability and experience).
Course Locations:
We run the TLIC0023 training course:
- At our own driver training facilities located in:
- Chinchilla, Queensland
(4 hours north-west of Brisbane or 4 hours west of the Sunshine Coast). - Yatala, Queensland
(between the Gold Coast and Brisbane )
- Chinchilla, Queensland
- Anywhere in Australia
Our driver training instructors are also able to travel to your site, located anywhere in Australia, to deliver the TLIC0023 Operate Four-Wheel Drive Vehicle driver training course. We may charge for travel when journey time to and from the training location is more than 1 hour in total, and where there are mobilisation and demobilisation costs.

Recognised driver’s licence or provisional car licence.

TLIC0023 – Course Structure
The TLIC0023 four wheel driving training course consists of:
- Sign-in and induction
- Classroom presentation and discussion
- Questionnaire
- Static practical lessons around the vehicle
- Hands-on lessons and assessment driving a 4WD vehicle
- There will be some self paced study.
TLIC0023 – Information Topics Covered
Topics covered during the classroom lessons include the following:
- Legal requirements and company procedure/policy – land access
- Prestart/post operational checks – load security/fault finding
- Defensive driving techniques – night driving/wet roads/animals/environmental impacts
- Four-wheel drive systems
- Journey management – fatigue/communication
- Off road driving techniques – terrain/sand/mud
- On/off road driving techniques – hazard identification

TLIC0023 – Practical Component
On the TLIC0023 4wd course you will have 4 hours of practical training in a 4×4 vehicle covering the following lessons:
- Prestart/post operational checks – load security/fault repair
- Journey management
- Driving on public and unsealed roads – emergency braking/cornering/adherence to road rules/company policy and procedure
- Negotiating various terrain – up/down steep slopes, across side slopes
- Fitting and use of chains – only where required/company policy
- Monitoring environmental impacts
- Complete stall recovery – forwards and reverse
